Garden Windows: A Plant’s Best Friend

A garden window is a perfect modular addition to your kitchen area. Typically located above the sink (but versatile to be placed anywhere in your home) and with enough room to place one or more plants, three-sided garden windows are perfect for letting in the sun, providing a spacious view and above all for providing space for plant to grow and thrive…thanks to one or more removable shelves.

Our aluminum-based garden windows provide side-vents for consistent air flow, and are also water and moisture resistance for your favorite plants and herbs. Generally, the bottom panels are removable to allow easy access when outside and because the window module is three-sided you have easy access when inside your home as well. Being a plant was never this much fun!

Think Big

Although vinyl windows are HomeStar Windows & Doors’ specialty, our garden window line is constructed of durable aluminum, which performs just as well as vinyl. With rounded edges and adjustable shelving, you’re not limited to a once-size-fits-all schematic. Think big and outside the box because HomeStar Windows & Doors will give you exactly what you’re looking for: a great outside view, lots of room, and sturdy construction for your Salt Lake City home.

Garden Windows (by the Numbers)

According to the professionals at Home and Window.com, “The abundance of glass in garden windows means you should pay attention to two energy efficiency ratings assigned to most residential windows.” Specifically this involves paying attention to the U-Factor, which is a measurement of the amount of airflow allowed through a closed window over a period of time. Lower numbers are better with this test. Another key component of garden windows is the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). The SHGC is a measurement of the amount of radiant heat from the sun allowed into a home by a window. This can be an important number for a garden window and you should look for the more energy-efficient lower test numbers.

What’s this mean for you? Garden windows can be just as energy efficient as any other replacement window in your home and you can even improve their performance with options such as Low-E glass and Argon gas between the glass panes. You may also want to consider having your Salt Lake City, UT garden windows professionally installed to ensure they are flashed and sealed correctly.
